The roadmap includes details of the work to be done to achieve President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to generate 33% of the Maldives’ electricity from renewable energy sources by 2028.
Minister Thoriq said that this roadmap is an important step towards advancing the Maldives’ energy sector and protecting the environment. He also stated that the government will undertake numerous efforts to achieve this goal.
In addition to participants from various sectors of the Maldives, representatives from international organizations also attended the special event held at COP29. The ministry stated that many parties expressed interest in providing the necessary assistance to implement the roadmap.
This year’s theme for COP29 is “In Solidarity for a Green World”. This conference provides an opportunity for the Maldives to share its work on climate change, resilience, and sustainable development with the world, and to find solutions to the challenges faced as a developing small island nation.
