The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has expanded to an additional province, with the total number of confirmed cases exceeding 7,000 and the death toll rising to 3,398. This marks the deadliest outbreak in the country’s history and the second-largest Ebola epidemic recorded globally. As contact tracing efforts commence following a newly detected case in the South Ubangi province—located far from the primary affected regions—authorities face significant obstacles in containing the virus due to a critical shortage of trained healthcare professionals and insufficient funding.
