On the occasion of Voter’s Day, the President of the Elections Commission, Mohamed Shakeel, stated that a vote is a testimony to an individual’s integrity and competence, as well as a sacred trust that must be upheld. He emphasized that casting a vote to elect individuals to various levels of national office is a decision that directly impacts national development and the stability of institutions, urging citizens to exercise this right with honesty and sincerity. Since 2015, the Maldives has observed August 25th as Voter’s Day to bolster public confidence in the electoral system and to enhance civic participation in the democratic process.
