Hulhumale North constituency Councilor Fathimath Zahiyya has faced public criticism following her remarks stating that land required to expedite the development of the Villimale hospital does not need to be handed over to the government. During a Male City Council meeting, Villimale Councilor Ibrahim Samahu expressed concern, emphasizing that the council’s cooperation is vital to commencing the hospital’s physical works. He noted that withholding the land constitutes a detriment to public health. However, the MDP-majority City Council has refused to allocate land for the project’s temporary sites, opting instead to delay the process under the guise of further review. Amidst allegations that the council is obstructing government projects, similar disputes had previously surfaced regarding the land designated for the wet market.
