The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has published a research report identifying corruption risks within the sports governance framework, proposing 18 recommendations for sector-wide reform. Key proposals include mandating the disclosure of associations’ income and expenditure by law, conducting financial audits, publishing the financial statements of top officials, and strengthening electoral systems and procurement processes.
Commenting on the report, the Minister of Sports stated that the sports sector has been used as a facade to conceal major crimes and embezzlement, emphasizing the urgent need for change. The Minister further noted that the government has taken the initiative to address these issues by monitoring the utilization of funds granted to associations, strengthening audit mechanisms, and mandating adherence to transparent financial policies.
