President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to propose a robust legislative framework to the People’s Majlis, aimed at ensuring that all laws and regulations enacted in the Maldives strictly adhere to Islamic principles. Speaking at the official ceremony held to mark National Day, the President noted that while the Constitution stipulates that no law shall be contrary to the tenets of Islam, a concrete mechanism to practically guarantee this consistency has been lacking.

The President assured that during the current year’s third session of Parliament, he would submit a systemic reform to prevent any legislative actions that might conflict with Islamic faith and values. Furthermore, highlighting the profound connection between the nation’s independence and Islam, the President emphasized that whenever policies deviate from religious values, the country’s sovereignty faces risks. He also remarked that the historic struggle commemorated on National Day was a noble effort dedicated to the preservation of both religion and the nation.
