
In recognition of his invaluable contributions to Maldivian literature and history, Al-Fadhil Kashima Ahmed Shakir was conferred with the prestigious state honor, the “Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzudheen,” by the President during this year’s official National Day ceremony. Since beginning his career in state service in 1969, Mr. Shakir has held numerous high-ranking positions and has established himself as a prominent figure in the fields of writing, translation, poetry, and historical research.
Having played pivotal roles in institutions such as TV Maldives and Villa College, Mr. Shakir has authored several books on Maldivian history and biographies of significant national figures. His dedication has previously been recognized with various accolades, including the National Award of Honour and the Silver Pen of Journalism. He continues to serve the nation in significant capacities, currently as a member of the ‘Baasuru’ Council of National Identity and as the Chairperson of the National Awards Committee.
