Under the operations led by the government’s special task force established to tackle illegal business activities by expatriates, 447 complaints have been investigated to date. These operations have resulted in the inspection of 247 establishments and the closure of 107 businesses found to be operating in violation of regulations. As a result of these efforts, many businesses previously controlled by expatriates are now transitioning into the hands of Maldivians. Furthermore, the Ministry of Economic Development has identified and designated over 30 sectors in which expatriates are prohibited from conducting business. The government emphasizes that public cooperation is essential in preventing such activities to protect the rights of Maldivian entrepreneurs and strengthen the national economy.
