“Scientific Research Vital for Marine Resource Conservation”

Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, has emphasized the critical importance of scientific research in protecting and sustainably managing the Maldives’ marine resources. Speaking at the 6th Marine Science Symposium, the Minister highlighted the necessity of identifying the adverse impacts of climate change and seeking knowledge-based solutions to address these challenges.

The Minister further stated that the government’s objective is to ensure that decision-making processes are grounded in scientific evidence, thereby safeguarding the livelihoods that depend on the marine environment. Additionally, he underscored the importance of increasing local participation in this field and enhancing the nation’s scientific capacity in collaboration with international experts. A total of 47 research papers related to marine science are scheduled to be presented during this two-day symposium.
