The Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has urged against the dissemination of misinformation regarding the Maldives’ economy for political gain. The Minister stated that the opposition’s claims of skyrocketing commodity prices are unfounded and do not reflect reality, noting that fuel prices in the Maldives remain lower compared to other countries in the region. He further highlighted that despite the challenges posed by the previous administration’s extensive currency printing and shifts in the global landscape, the current government is working diligently to maintain price stability. Additionally, the Minister called for greater responsibility, urging the opposition to refrain from disrupting national stability and obstructing key economic initiatives—such as bunkering services and the residency visa program—which are vital for the nation’s economic growth.
