Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has stated that the commencement of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between the Maldives and Türkiye has opened doors for Maldivian fish products to enter a vast market of over 85 million people. Under this agreement, duties will be eliminated for 75 different categories of goods, marking a significant step towards strengthening economic ties as envisioned by the leaders of both nations.
This strategic partnership is expected to provide Maldivian fishermen with access to new markets while facilitating more affordable Turkish imports into the Maldives. Furthermore, it serves as a gateway for Maldivian products to penetrate European markets more effectively. This initiative is the direct result of President Dr. Muizzu’s official visit to Türkiye in 2023, during which these diplomatic and economic discussions were initiated.
