President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the “Maldives 2.0” project, aimed at digitizing the nation, will empower local councils and strengthen the delivery of public services. The primary objective of this three-year initiative is to eradicate corruption and ensure the provision of services to citizens through a transparent and efficient system. To establish the necessary legal framework for this transition, the “Digital Transformation Bill” has already been submitted to the Parliament.
Under this project, government documents and records will be digitally archived, offering significant conveniences to both employees and service seekers. Notably, the initiative will introduce digital health services within the healthcare sector and provide small businesses with the opportunity to connect to global markets. The President highlighted that these reforms would transition the entire state into a “smart” system, leading to a revolutionary improvement in the quality of services provided to the public.
