President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the development of “Hope Island” in Uthuru Thila Falhu will begin very soon. This initiative aims to rehabilitate and reintegrate children exposed to criminal environments back into society. The project, spanning 15 hectares with a capacity for 700 individuals, will be equipped with educational facilities, religious guidance, therapeutic services, and sports amenities.
The President emphasized that a permanent solution to juvenile delinquency can only be achieved by addressing root causes, such as housing instability and lack of economic opportunities. Under this program, children will be accommodated at the facility until they reach the age of 18, after which they will be required to serve in the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) or the Maldives Police Service for a designated period. The administration aims to complete the project and demonstrate tangible results within the current presidential term.
