The commencement of operations at the Maldives Correctional Service’s own headquarters has resulted in significant savings for the state budget, previously spent on office rent. Commissioner of Prisons, Hassan Zareer, stated that while over 550,000 Rufiyaa was formerly spent on monthly rent, the transition to the new building will save the state approximately 1 million Rufiyaa each month. This move addresses the challenges previously faced due to space constraints and the use of dilapidated facilities, thereby streamlining the institution’s administrative efficiency. Accommodating 175 officers and staff within its 12,000-square-foot premises, this new facility represents a monumental advancement in the Service’s 54-year history.
