The lack of a mechanism to receive payments via PayPal has long been the primary obstacle for Maldivian talent to access international markets and earn revenue in foreign currency. However, through the proactive initiatives of the current administration and three years of dedicated technical efforts by Ooredoo Maldives, the PayPal inward remittance service has now been introduced to the Maldives via Ooredoo ‘m-Faisaa’.
To utilize this service, users can link their PayPal account to a registered m-Faisaa account, allowing funds sent by international clients to be received directly into their m-Faisaa wallet. Furthermore, arrangements have been made to facilitate the immediate transfer of these funds to bank accounts, enabling withdrawals via ATMs. This development marks a significant milestone for freelancers and small businesses, providing them with a substantial opportunity to thrive in the global arena. The government’s objective is to further integrate the Maldivian economy with international markets by leveraging such digital platforms.
