The United Nations has issued a warning regarding the imminent onset of a significant El Niño phase in the coming weeks, exacerbated by escalating global temperatures and climate change. According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), there is a high probability that this event will emerge as one of the most intense climatic disasters ever recorded. Driven by the warming of surface waters in the Pacific Ocean, this phenomenon is expected to trigger extreme weather anomalies globally, heightening the risks of catastrophic flooding, severe heatwaves, and an increased frequency of wildfires. Scientists further caution that the impact of El Niño could result in the coming years becoming the hottest in recorded history.
