On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the government’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding the younger generation from the dangers of tobacco. In this regard, the administration has implemented significant measures, including a ban on e-cigarettes and the introduction of a “Generational Ban” that prohibits the sale of tobacco products to individuals born after 2007. Furthermore, the government has increased import duties on tobacco and raised the minimum legal age for tobacco transactions to 21 years.
The President also highlighted the emergence of new challenges, such as the use of artificial intelligence in tobacco advertising, and urged the public to remain vigilant. He concluded by calling for a collective effort to build a tobacco-free, healthy society.
