Four Apprehended in Narcotics Crackdown

In a coordinated effort to combat illicit drug trafficking, the Maldives Police Service has apprehended four individuals suspected of involvement in the trade of narcotics.

According to the authorities, the arrests were made during a joint operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence across Malé and Hulhumalé.

The operation, which took place last Monday, involved the execution of court-authorized searches on five residential apartments. During these searches, officers seized approximately 100.09 grams of substances suspected to be narcotics.

The individuals taken into custody are:

  1. Ahmed Jinah (43), of Mutheehouse, Th. Thimarafushi
  2. Ahmed Saeed (28), of Saimage, Ha. Hoarafushi
  3. Mohamed Anoof Ali (27), of Houston, Gdh. Madaveli
  4. Ahmed Maeesh Rasheed (28), of Abumage, Gdh. Hoadedhdhoo

Police confirmed that the suspects were detained under court warrants on suspicion of the use, possession, and distribution of illicit drugs.

Following their initial production in court to determine their remand status, the presiding judge ordered Ahmed Jinah and Ahmed Saeed to be remanded in custody for 15 days. Mohamed Anoof Ali and Ahmed Maeesh Rasheed were ordered to be held for a period of five days.

The Maldives Police Service is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
