The Vice President of the People’s National Congress (PNC), Ahmed Shiyam, has issued a sharp critique of the former Mayor of Addu City, Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe).
Speaking at a campaign event for the Hithadhoo North constituency by-election, Shiyam asserted that although Sobe had spent numerous years in influential positions—including serving as Mayor and State Minister—no substantial progress was achieved for the development of Addu. Shiyam emphasized that Sobe must be held fully accountable for the failure to address the social, economic, and infrastructural needs of the city.
Furthermore, Shiyam contended that Sobe’s bid for the parliamentary seat is driven by political opportunism rather than a genuine desire to serve the public. The Hithadhoo North seat became vacant following the disqualification of a former PNC member over a financial matter.
