The Elections Commission (EC) has announced that a second round of voting to elect the President of the D. Meedhoo Council will be held on June 13. This follow-up election was mandated after the initial results ended in a tie.
The deadlock between the PNC candidate, Suha Ibrahim, and the MDA candidate, Mohamed Shahid, occurred following a High Court ruling. The court overturned the initial result by declaring a previously invalidated ballot as valid, leading to an equal number of votes for both candidates.
According to the Elections Commission, polling is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 13, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The official results of the election are expected to be announced on June 14.
