The Maldives and India have held discussions aimed at fast-tracking the establishment of a bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA). These deliberations took place during the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ official visit to India, in a high-level meeting with India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry.
Beyond the scope of the free trade agreement, the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in several key areas, including investment promotion, streamlining financial transactions, and advancing digitalization efforts. The Maldivian government anticipates that this agreement will lead to a reduction in import duties, thereby fostering significant economic growth and bolstering commercial ties between the two nations.
