The National Council of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has established a specialized six-member advisory committee to provide counsel to the party’s Interim Chairperson, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa. This high-level committee comprises prominent figures, including former President Mohamed Nasheed and former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, along with other senior party leaders. The committee is mandated to function until a permanent Chairperson is elected.
In addition to the formation of this committee, the National Council has decided to propose amendments to the party’s primary charter. These amendments aim to designate former presidents who served under the MDP ticket as permanent members of the National Council. Furthermore, the changes include formally recognizing President Mohamed Nasheed as a Party Advisor. These strategic reforms have been introduced with the objective of streamlining party governance and strengthening administrative operations following recent internal leadership disagreements.
