The Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, has stated that Maldives receiving the “Seafood Watch Ratings” is a testament to the robustness and success of the government’s fisheries policy. The Maldives has become the first nation to receive a country-specific “Seafood Watch Rating” from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program—a benchmark widely utilized by American seafood distributors and other global stakeholders when sourcing fish products.
In a social media post, Minister Shiyam described this achievement as a historic milestone for the Maldives on the international stage. The Minister further highlighted that this recognition represents significant progress in the nation’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable fishing practices and the responsible management of marine resources.
