Sarangu Adam Manik, a veteran member of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the first Mayor of Male’ City, has voiced strong criticism against the party’s current leadership. He asserted that those now at the helm of the MDP are individuals who were previously opposed to the party—describing them as “outsiders” who joined later—and noted that the voices of the party’s original founders are no longer valued. He further highlighted that with the departure of key figures like former President Nasheed, the MDP has strayed from its founding principles and original path.
Furthermore, Adam Manik expressed his support for President Dr. Muizzu’s administration and endorsed Moosa Ali Jaleel for the position of Male’ City Mayor. He attributed the current economic challenges facing the Maldives to the significant debt accumulated by the previous administration. While emphasizing the need for the government to accelerate its administrative processes, he reaffirmed his confidence in President Muizzu’s policies. He concluded by stating that he would not be seen within the MDP unless the party undergoes fundamental reforms.
