The government has launched a project to develop a modern 6-story market complex aimed at upgrading the existing markets in the Malé commercial area. Awarded to Trusteng Maldives at a project value of MVR 126.4 million, this initiative involves the construction of a 95,000-square-foot facility on the site of the current local market.
The basement of the building is dedicated to parking for 400 motorcycles, while the ground floor will house a modern fish market designed to meet high health and hygiene standards. This floor will include 110 stalls and a 5-ton ice plant. The first through third floors are specifically allocated for the sale of fruits, vegetables, and various food products, featuring a total of 455 stalls across these three levels. Furthermore, the top floor will be developed as a food court. All stalls within the complex will be provided fully furnished and ready for operation.
The government aims to complete this project within 1 year and 8 months, with the primary objective of easing congestion in the bazaar area and creating a convenient environment for customers. In addition to the market complex, ongoing efforts are also underway to modernize the roads and harbor within the vicinity.
