Following allegations by Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar that the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has failed to deliver any progress for Addu City over the past two years, Minister Ali Ihusan has refuted these claims by detailing a series of significant projects and initiatives undertaken in the city.
The Minister highlighted the successful establishment of ID card and passport services in Hithadhoo and Feydhoo, alongside specialized operations conducted to identify and detain undocumented expatriates. Furthermore, he noted that efforts have been expedited to complete the Customs Regional Office and police accommodation facilities, while new infrastructure is being developed to expand policing services across the city.
Presenting statistical data, Minister Ihusan revealed that the police presence in Addu City has been increased by 19 percent, leading to a notable decline in reported cases of assault and robbery. Additionally, targeted operations have been launched against drug networks, and several council services have been transitioned to online platforms for greater accessibility.
The Minister suggested that the Mayor’s failure to acknowledge these advancements stems from a politically motivated opposition to the administration. He emphasized the importance of electing individuals who are committed to collaborating with the government to ensure the efficient delivery of services to the citizens.
