A significant disturbance occurred in Kulhudhuffushi City after Mayor Mohamed Athif was reportedly found in an isolated area late Tuesday night with an 18-year-old female. The incident took place in the vicinity of the airport. According to sources, tensions escalated when the Mayor allegedly refused to cooperate with the girl’s family members, who had intercepted the vehicle, and reportedly attempted to flee the scene.
The ensuing confrontation led to physical altercations, resulting in several individuals sustaining injuries. Following the incident, the Mayor drove to the local police station to seek refuge. The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that the Mayor is currently under their protection to ensure his safety. This incident has sparked widespread public criticism and concern across the city.
