The Adhaalath Party, an opposition party, along with the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), has joined the government in supporting a constitutional amendment to hold presidential and parliamentary elections on the same day. As a national referendum is required to implement this change, the Adhaalath Party’s Consultation Council has officially decided to vote in favor of the amendment, citing national interest. The government has announced that this referendum is scheduled to take place alongside the Local Council Elections in April next year.
