Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has stated that, unlike certain other pillars of Islam, Fitr Zakat is a compulsory obligation upon every Muslim, encompassing both children and adults. Speaking at an ‘Ihya’ forum organized by the Maumoon Foundation, he highlighted that the full blessings and rewards of Ramadan fasting are secured, and the acts of worship are elevated to Allah Almighty, only upon the fulfillment of Fitr Zakat.
He further clarified that this Zakat must be settled before the Eid prayer and can be paid in the form of staple grains or its monetary equivalent. Accordingly, President Maumoon urged the public to be prompt in paying their Fitr Zakat to ensure the spiritual completion of their Ramadan fasts.
