In response to the shifting dynamics of global aviation caused by the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, several international airlines are significantly increasing their flight frequencies to the Maldives. Key carriers, including Switzerland’s Edelweiss, Air India, and Russia’s Aeroflot, have expanded their schedules to accommodate the growing demand. This strategic shift reflects the preference of travelers to seek direct and secure routes, positioning the Maldives as a premier and safe destination amidst regional uncertainties.
Furthermore, there has been an unprecedented surge in private jet arrivals. According to data from the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), private jet traffic has witnessed a remarkable 166 percent increase compared to the previous year. While Velana International Airport remains a primary gateway, Maafaru International Airport has also emerged as a significant hub for private aviation. These developments underscore the Maldives’ resilience and its standing as an accessible, reliable, and elite destination, capable of maintaining its appeal despite evolving global challenges.
