Under the Maldives Zakat Act, the Maldives Zakat House has decided to formulate a new regulation making it mandatory for all eligible Zakat payers to register. While paying Zakat was previously treated primarily as an individual responsibility, this upcoming regulation—expected to be finalized within the next five months—will ensure that information regarding Zakat payers is managed through a structured official system. Additionally, the Zakat House is currently updating the registry of the poor and continues to review this list every two years. As the collection of Zakat al-Mal in the Maldives continues to grow, records show that 11.8 million MVR was collected as Zakat al-Mal in the past month alone.
