Physical works have officially commenced on the development of a new 30-bed hospital in R. Alifushi. The project, contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), is valued at MVR 128 million and is slated for completion within two years. Currently, the project is in the foundation phase.
Upon completion, the hospital is expected to significantly enhance healthcare accessibility for the residents of Alifushi and its neighboring islands, providing broader access to specialized medical services. Designed with modern infrastructure, the facility will include dedicated isolation units, a flu clinic, and an integrated solar power system to minimize energy costs and promote sustainability.
This initiative is part of the government’s strategic efforts to bolster regional healthcare infrastructure and is set to provide a permanent solution to the spatial constraints currently faced by the island’s existing health center.
