The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has announced that Sultan Park will reopen on Eid al-Fitr, with special “Eid Haviru” (Eid evening) festivities planned to take place over the course of three days. According to the MNDF, the park has been prepared for public use to coincide with this year’s Eid celebrations, and various festive activities will be hosted within the park premises.
The renovation and modernization project for Sultan Park, Republic Square, and the Tsunami Monument commenced last August, during which these public spaces were closed to the public for upgrading to contemporary standards.
While the reopening of the Tsunami Monument and Sultan Park was initially scheduled for after Eid, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu directed that efforts be expedited to ensure these locations were ready by the Eid holidays. In addition to the park’s reopening, the “Eid Haviru” celebrations are set to run for three days, from 16:00 to 18:00 daily.
This year’s Eid festivities will feature various stalls organized by the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, along with other state institutions and corporate entities. These stalls will offer a variety of games and recreational activities. Each stall is designed around unique themes to provide diverse experiences, specifically focusing on engaging and entertaining activities for children.
