President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized the importance of having a city council that shares the same vision as the government to ensure the smooth implementation of planned development projects for Addu City. The President noted that councils with opposing political views could potentially use the powers granted under the decentralization system to obstruct developmental efforts.
In particular, the President highlighted that the government’s vision to transform Addu City into a hub for small and medium enterprises requires the council’s full cooperation, especially regarding land management. Therefore, he urged the public to elect government-aligned candidates in upcoming elections. He further stated that it is the responsibility of every citizen to prioritize the development of their islands and cities over familial interests or personal affiliations.
