President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the establishment of a Central Power Station by the government in Addu City will provide a permanent solution to the long-standing electricity challenges faced by the city. The President further revealed that the project is scheduled for completion by July next year.
Speaking at the PNC’s “The Greater Addu Event,” President Dr. Muizzu noted that the electricity crisis in Addu City is not a new issue, highlighting that several previous administrations had failed to resolve the matter. However, he emphasized that his administration is focused on strengthening the national economy while simultaneously pursuing various developmental initiatives. As such, a major project has been initiated to address Addu City’s power concerns.
The President assured that the new Central Power Station would yield a lasting remedy for the city’s electricity problems. He stated that upon completion by July next year, the project is expected to guarantee a stable power supply for Addu City for the next 20 years.
“Under this agreement, a 26-megawatt power generation system will be established, God willing. By July of next year, the entire project will be completed, providing a solution to Addu City’s electricity issues for the upcoming 20 years,” the President said.
In addition to the power project, President Muizzu highlighted that numerous other developmental works are currently underway in Addu.
“We are currently undertaking 48 projects; some have already commenced physical work, while others are in the administrative phase. There are also 18 projects included in this year’s budget,” President Dr. Muizzu remarked.
The President also noted that, similar to the electricity issue, road construction is being prioritized. He mentioned that the Road Development Corporation (RDC) is currently in the process of procuring the necessary equipment and personnel for the second phase of the Addu City road development project. Furthermore, the President underscored that significant efforts are being made to enhance the healthcare sector in Addu City.
