Following a period of corruption and decline within the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), the newly elected Executive Committee, led by President Ahmed Tariq, has successfully regained international confidence in a remarkably short period. The visit of FIFA President Gianni Infantino to the Maldives, along with the appointment of Maldivian officials to various FIFA committees, stands as a testament to this restored trust. Furthermore, the association has cleared outstanding debts and secured the opportunity to host SAFF tournaments, with the Maldives currently preparing for the SAFF U-20 Championship.

With the appointment of István Urbányi as Technical Director and Mohamed Shiyaz as the National Coach, significant efforts are underway to enhance grassroots programs, women’s football, and futsal. As a result, both the futsal and senior national teams have achieved regional successes. FAM’s current objective is to maintain the trust of clubs and supporters while striving to bring back the “Golden Age” of Maldivian football. In this regard, the upcoming SAFF Youth Championship is viewed as a pivotal opportunity to revive the spirit of football through the passion of Maldivian fans.
