In January this year, the Maldives’ Sea-to-Air cargo service successfully facilitated the shipment of 140 tons of goods—equivalent to 26 containers—to six different countries globally. Launched in May last year, this strategic initiative is a collaborative effort between Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), designed to streamline the transshipment of sea freight to air transport.
While a total of 17 airlines are currently partnered with this service, operations last month were carried out through five specific airlines. The government has highlighted that this growing sector is providing significant benefits to the Maldivian economy.
