
Air India, the national carrier of India, has marked the historic milestone of 50 years of flight operations to the Maldives. The anniversary was celebrated today with a special ceremony at Velana International Airport (VIA). Air India holds the distinction of being the first Indian airline to establish international air connectivity with the Maldives.
To commemorate this significant occasion, the arriving Air India flight was honored with a traditional water salute and a warm reception. A total of 139 passengers traveled to the Maldives on today’s flight, and each was greeted with roses and cookies as a gesture of hospitality.
This event, organized by Velana International Airport, symbolizes the enduring and close relationship between Air India and the Maldives. Air India’s inaugural flight to the Maldives took place on February 21, 1976.
