
The People’s National Congress (PNC) has successfully secured 69 seats without a contest in the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections. According to the Elections Commission, the PNC secured 28 seats in local councils and 41 seats in Women’s Development Committees.
In addition, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) secured 6 seats, the Adhaalath Party (AP) won 2 seats, and 5 independent candidates also confirmed their positions without an election. These seats were guaranteed because the number of contestants did not exceed the number of required positions, or due to the withdrawal of other candidates. A total of 67 candidates withdrew their names, leaving 2,927 candidates to compete in the final election.
