
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended his congratulations to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) following its success in the Bangladesh general elections. According to the official results released by the Bangladesh Election Commission, the BNP and its allied coalition secured at least 212 seats out of the 299 seats in the National Parliament. Furthermore, the opposition Jamaat-e-Islami achieved its most significant electoral success in history, winning 77 seats. Following this victory, Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the BNP and son of the late former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, is set to assume the office of Prime Minister.
In a post on social media, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu congratulated the BNP and its Chairman, Tarique Rahman, on their electoral triumph. The President expressed his confidence that the Maldives and Bangladesh would further strengthen their collaborative efforts following this victory. He also highlighted the long-standing bilateral relations between the two nations, noting his commitment to enhancing cooperation and fostering a more robust partnership in the coming years.
This election has been noted as one of the most competitive in Bangladesh in recent years. Despite previous elections being marked by boycotts from major political parties and concerns regarding legitimacy, voter turnout in this election reached approximately 60 percent.
