Government Aims to Complete Construction of Six Regional Hospitals This Year

The government is actively working to complete the construction and commence operations of six hospitals currently under development across various regions of the Maldives within the current year. According to the Ministry of Health, the hospitals scheduled for completion and inauguration this year are located in HA. Hoarafushi, N. Kendhikulhudhoo, R. Dhuvaafaru, B. Thulhaadhoo, Lh. Hinnavaru, and K. Guraidhoo. These projects are pivotal initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of healthcare services in the atolls and reducing the necessity for citizens to travel to Male’ for medical treatment. Furthermore, efforts are underway to establish urban centers in seven strategic regions and upgrade their respective hospitals to tertiary-level facilities. The government’s overarching goal is to bring about a revolutionary transformation to the Maldivian healthcare system over the next five years.
