As the fishing industry remains the primary pillar of the Maldivian economy, the current administration is undertaking significant efforts to revitalize and advance this sector. To diversify the industry, strategic plans are underway to expand “Sports Fishing” by establishing modern harbors and state-of-the-art facilities across various regions of the country. This initiative is expected to pave the way for new business ventures and specialized tourism opportunities within the fisheries sector.

Furthermore, an unprecedented priority has been accorded to expanding the national Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) network. This includes refining FAD designs, increasing the total number of deployments, and commencing the practical work to establish FAD production centers in both the northern and southern regions of the Maldives. These robust policies are aimed at addressing the long-standing concerns of fishermen and securing a prosperous economic future for the nation.
