Poland and Italy have officially decided not to join the peace board proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump to oversee the administration of Gaza. President Trump has envisioned an expanded role for this board, aiming to bring peace not only to Gaza but also to other conflict-ridden regions once it is fully established. This vision has caused several European nations to hesitate. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the decision to opt out for the time being was based on concerns regarding the board’s composition. However, Tusk noted that Poland might reconsider its position should the current circumstances change.

Similarly, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani highlighted constitutional obstacles preventing Italy’s participation. Under the Italian Constitution, joining an international organization requires that all member states are granted equal authority. In contrast, the peace board proposed by Trump is structured to grant him significant individual powers. Despite this, Tajani reassured that Italy remains fully committed to supporting the reconstruction efforts in Gaza. The United States has extended invitations to 60 countries to join the peace board.

While nations such as Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar have agreed to participate, several major Western powers remain reluctant. There are concerns that the board’s operations could overshadow the existing role of the United Nations in the international arena. Additionally, President Trump has indicated that participating nations would be expected to contribute one billion U.S. dollars towards the reconstruction of Gaza. Apart from the United States, the other four permanent members of the UN Security Council have not confirmed their participation.

While Russia has expressed interest in joining the board, China has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. Meanwhile, both France and the United Kingdom have confirmed they will not be participating in the initiative.
