“Every Draw Feels Like a Defeat; We Are Failing to Meet Liverpool’s Standards,” says Arne Slot

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted that the team is struggling to perform at its true potential this season. Speaking ahead of tonight’s Premier League clash against Sunderland, the coach attributed their recent poor results to a lack of consistent form. The defending champions currently sit sixth in the league table, trailing 17 points behind leaders Arsenal.

“Every draw feels like a defeat to us. This is something the players find difficult to accept, as they recognize it does not reflect Liverpool’s true standards. It is disheartening for them. We approach every match with the expectation of winning, yet we are falling short. The players are now acutely aware that they aren’t reaching the level expected of this club, regardless of the opposition,” Slot stated.

Slot, who took over the reins last season, described this as the most challenging period of his coaching career. “Even from an outside perspective, this is evident. I don’t recall ever losing two consecutive matches before. Looking at our squad, we have the depth and quality to compete with any team in any league, yet we are failing to deliver that level of performance on the pitch,” he added.

He further noted that the upcoming match against Sunderland would be unexpectedly difficult, citing Sunderland’s impressive performances against Manchester City and Arsenal earlier this season.
