New Radiant Sports Club has disclosed that the club still faces significant financial liabilities, including unpaid dues to several former local players.
Since the transition to new management, the club has been working diligently to settle a substantial portion of the debts inherited from the previous administration. The current management’s objective is to restore the club’s former prestige, regain the trust of the players, and ensure a sustainable operational model that prioritizes timely salary payments.
The club’s Chairman, Ahmed Mubeen, confirmed that some debts incurred under the former management remain outstanding, specifically those owed to local players. He noted that the club is making monthly payments to clear these arrears as funds become available.
“We are navigating through a very challenging period. We are moving forward with the support of many fans, sponsors, and the assistance of various businessmen. The reality is that Maldivian football is currently in a dire state. Despite this, we have successfully addressed a significant portion of our initial targets,” Mubeen stated.
Senior Vice Chairman Mujthaba Jaleel (Mujey) reassured supporters that there is no cause for despair, emphasizing the management’s commitment to achieving daily progress.
“Our goal is to restructure New Radiant to its natural professional state. To achieve this, strategic investments are being made that will directly benefit the club and generate consistent monthly revenue,” Mujthaba explained.
He further highlighted that these efforts aim to secure a reliable income stream, enabling New Radiant to sustain itself even while employing top-tier local talent.
“If we cannot maintain football operations at this level in the Maldives, every change in management will bring similar difficulties, leading to financial instability and the inability to pay player salaries,” Mujthaba added.
He concluded by noting that if local clubs can adopt operational models similar to those of international clubs, they can achieve sustainability. He clarified that this does not necessarily mean incurring massive expenditures, but rather establishing a mechanism to manage average costs effectively.
