In a significant move to enhance public participation in legislative processes, the People’s Majlis has officially inaugurated the “e-Petition Portal.” Accessible through the e-Faas system, this platform enables citizens from across the country to submit petitions online and monitor their progress with ease. This initiative empowers the public to bring matters directly to the Parliament’s attention, reducing the reliance on intermediaries or individual members.
Developed with the technical and financial support of the UNDP, the United Kingdom, and Australia, this system places the Maldives among a select few South Asian nations to implement a digital petitioning framework. During the launching ceremony, the Speaker of the Parliament, Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdulla, emphasized that the portal will foster greater transparency in parliamentary proceedings and strengthen the connection between the institution and the people.
