Club Eagles coach Abdulla Hanif (Banjo) has stated that Maziya Sports and Recreation is a dominant force in Maldivian football, and losing to such a team is no cause for disappointment. Speaking after his team’s 0-3 defeat against Maziya in the league, Hanif noted that Maziya performed better than Eagles from the start of the match. He further highlighted that, in terms of squad depth and quality, Maziya remains a significantly stronger side. Given these circumstances, Hanif remarked that there is no reason to be disheartened by the loss, adding that securing a point or a victory against Maziya would have been considered a “bonus” for Club Eagles.
“There is likely no reason to be disappointed. Maziya is the team currently leading the league. Had we secured a point or a win, we would have viewed it as a bonus. Therefore, there is no significant disappointment,” Hanif said. With this victory over Eagles, Maziya has moved a step closer to securing the league title. If Maziya wins their next match against Buru Sports Club, they will clinch the Dhivehi League championship for the fifth time.
With three matches remaining for each team in the league, Maziya sits at the top of the table with 43 points from 15 matches. Odi Sports Club follows in second place with 35 points. Consequently, if Maziya secures three points in their next fixture, they will reach 46 points—a total that Odi Sports Club cannot surpass in their remaining matches. Following the defeat to Maziya, Club Eagles currently occupies fifth place in the league standings with 22 points from 15 matches.
