President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially established the “Maldives National Anti-Doping Agency” (MANADA) as a statutory body governed by an independent board of directors. Formed under the latest amendments to the Sports Act, the primary objective of this agency is to eradicate the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports and to ensure a fair and level playing field for all athletes.

Previously functioning under the direct administration of the Ministry of Sports, the transition of these responsibilities to an independent authority will facilitate a more autonomous regulatory environment. This structural change ensures that the Maldives’ sporting landscape aligns with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code and the UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport, free from government influence. This move represents a significant step in upholding sporting integrity, in accordance with the international treaties signed by the Maldives in 2010.
