During the ceremony, which marked the beginning of land reclamation for the HA. Dhidhdhoo airport, housing projects, and other essential services, MACL’s CEO and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, shared details regarding the company’s ongoing reclamation initiatives.
Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed emphasized that the project to reclaim land and build an airport would drive economic growth for the island. Consequently, he urged the residents of Dhidhdhoo to seize this opportunity and work towards establishing the island as a central hub for the region.

Shareef noted that the start of land reclamation in HA. Dhidhdhoo brings immense joy to the residents and represents the realization of a long-held dream. On behalf of the entire company, he expressed gratitude to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for entrusting MACL with the Dhidhdhoo land reclamation project.
He further stated that following the project’s assignment, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu instructed for it to be completed as swiftly as possible. In line with the President’s guidance, the “Leiv Eiriksson,” one of the world’s largest dredgers, has been brought in to expedite the Dhidhdhoo reclamation project.
“On behalf of MACL, we are managing the country’s main airport, Hanimaadhoo Airport, and various other airports. Additionally, we are carrying out several tasks assigned to MACL by the government. Currently, we are conducting three major dredging projects in three different locations simultaneously. We assure everyone that, God willing, we will complete the work according to the schedule and the dates we have committed to,” stated the MACL MD.
MACL informed that 115 hectares of land will be added to Dhidhdhoo under this project. The reclamation project for the airport will address the island’s land scarcity issues, facilitating both airport development and the provision of land for housing. MACL also noted that upon completion of this project, the size of Dhidhdhoo will effectively double.
