The interim government of Nepal faces additional difficulties following a temporary order issued by the Supreme Court to halt the recall of ambassadors appointed to various countries. This development poses a challenge for Interim Prime Minister and former Chief Justice Sushila Karki’s transitional administration. Karki was appointed as Nepal’s Interim Prime Minister after the fall of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s government,’s government, which followed protests led by Generation Z and youth who rose against the previous administration.

After assuming office, Interim Prime Minister Karki decided to recall ambassadors stationed in 11 different countries who had been appointed by Oli’s government. Karki stated that the recall was due to dissatisfaction with their performance.

However, independent lawyer Ananta Raj Luitel, who appeared in court against the decision, stated that the interim government failed to present a convincing justification for the recall to the Supreme Court. The Communication Minister of the interim government has stated that they will respect the Supreme Court’s decision. The young protesters who took to the streets of Kathmandu against Oli’s government had also raised their voices against corruption and malpractice.

The unrest that began with these protests represents the bloodiest conflict in Nepal’s recent history. The death toll has risen to 74, with more than 2,100 people injured.

Protesters caused significant infrastructure damage to Nepal. They attacked and set fire to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Supreme Court, and the Parliament building. They also burned private homes, properties, famous hotels, and numerous vehicles, causing extensive damage. Karki has established a special panel to investigate these to investigate these disturbances. She has also decided to hold elections for the lower house of Nepal’s Parliament before March 5.
